Dr.
Mabel Jean Morrison named
Laurel Hill's Citizen of the Year for 2007

At Thursday night's Laurel Hill City Council meeting, residents rose out
of their seats to honor Dr. Mabel Jean Morrison as the council named her
Laurel Hill's Citizen of the Year for 2007.

Morrison was an educator for 45 years, 29 of which were spent as the
assistant superintendent of the Okaloosa County School District. She was
also president of the Florida Association for Childhood Education.

Today, Morrison continues to represent her city and be a pioneer for
education as a member of various community organizations, including the
Okaloosa County Retired Teachers Association, the new local art council,
Children in Crisis, and the Laurel Hill Presbyterian Church, just to name
a few.

In 1999, Morrison was also inducted into the Okaloosa County Women's Hall
of Fame.

No one deserves this award more, said Mayor James Dunn. "Mabel Jean is
representative of what is good and right in Laurel Hill. She is a rock of
stability and an example for all."

The community will honor Dr. Morrison with a reception celebration on
April 28, from 2-4:00 p.m. at the Laurel Hill School. Plan to attend as we
honor a great lady in our community.
