Honoring the Citizen of the Year: John W. Harrison

It was a beautiful evening as Sybil Harrison spoke in her gentle voice to officials and friends in the Laurel Hill council chambers May 8. She expressed graceful acceptance for the plaque and honor given posthumously to her husband, John Harrison.

Council Chairman Vizell Robbins spoke from his heart of days spent as a boy in the presence of a young John Harrison, continuing into later years hearing words from a wise older man. Pastor McVay expressed his appreciation of one of his church members and neighbors. Mayor Dunn presented a plaque to Sybil with encouragement to use the key to the city at anytime. She said the children would appreciate the plaque and she wished John could be present to respond. ~ Estelle Rogers, Crestview News Bulletin
